As part of a graphic design competition, I submitted two logo concepts to mark the 50th anniversary of the Australia–Japan Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation. The first combines Japan’s cherry blossom with Australia’s golden wattle in a circular motif, symbolising harmony and continuity. The second reimagines the number “50,” with the “5” formed from boomerangs inspired by Indigenous Australian heritage and the “0” represented by Japan’s red sun. Together, these concepts celebrate unity, cultural respect, and the enduring partnership between the two nations. While the concepts weren't selected, they were a good exercise in creating a logo from scratch, rather than existing logos which may need a rebrand.
